YOKOHAMA – A 38-year-old son was arrested for kicking his 75-year-old father multiple times at his home in Yokohama. The father later died.

The suspect, Ryoma Hanyu (38), a part-time worker in Hodogaya-ku, Yokohama, was arrested on suspicion of assault. Hanyu is suspected of kicking his father, Akihiko, 75, several times in the stomach and other parts of the body at home between late August and early last month.
According to the police, Akihiko’s condition suddenly changed on the 25th of last month, and he was rushed to the emergency room. Two days later, the hospital received a report suspecting elder abuse.
Akihiko died on the 10th of this month, and the police investigated, and arrested Hanyu after he admitted to the assault.
The police are investigating the possibility that abuse was being carried out on a daily basis.
