How to apply for My Number Card online? What should I do to apply?
My Number or also called Kojin Bango (Individual Number) is a 12-digit ID number issued for every residents of Japan including foreign nationals.
Now, it is possible to apply the card through Online application. Please follow the steps below to guide you through the process.
1. VISIT YOUR CITY HALL AND INQUIRE AT THE MY NUMBER COUNTER
If you already possess the previous My Number (thin green paper card), you can change it to the new thick card version. Please inquire directly on your City Hall’s My Number application section.
Upon inquiring, you will be presented with two options. One is to apply by filling out the application form and submitting the required items like residence card and a 3×4 inch Passport size picture. If you can proceed to the application due to lack of requirements, you can continue the application via Online.
You will receive a document from the city hall staff that contains your My Number application. The document looks something like the image below.
2. ACCESS THE MY NUMBER ONLINE APPLICATION
Access the My Number Online Application using the link: LINK
Click the Apply Online button to start the application process.
3. CONFIRM THE TERMS AND CONDITION
Step 1. Confirming the Terms and Conditions of the application.
After verifying the contents, please tick the two green box if you confirm the conditions below:
– You are 15 years old above
– You have verified and read the Terms and Conditions of the application
Click the blue button to proceed to the next step.
4. E-MAIL ADDRESS REGISTRATION

i. Fill out the Shinseisho information 申請書ID
The 申請書ID is found at the My Number application form you have received from the city hall staff. You can refer to the image below and look for the red box on the image to locate where the 申請書ID number is. Input the details and proceed to ii.
ii. Fill out the E-mail Contact Name メール連絡用氏名 (Your Name)
iii. Fill out the E-mail address メールアドレス (e-mail address)
Input the capcha key then click the blue button (確認)to proceed to the next step.
5. INFORMATION CONFIRMATION

Confirm the information entered and press the 登録 (Register) button to proceed.
6. E-MAIL ADDRESS ACTIVATION

Close the page by clicking the gray button (閉じる) and check your email and look for the activation email.
Open the email and click the blue-colored link provided to confirm your email registration.
7. ID PICTURE REGISTRATION

You need to upload an ID Picture that will be used on your My Number card. You can check out this English article: LINK to confirm the correct ID uploading.
※ If you already have a Japanese format passport picture, you can use it to upload. However, make sure it follows the guideline.
Click the orange-colored upload button (アプロード) to upload your picture and press the blue confirmation button (確認) to confirm and proceed to the next step.

Confirm the uploaded picture and see if it follows the sample. Tick the three green box if:
i. The picture used is taken within the past 6 months.
ii. The picture is properly taken and has a clear background.
iii. You followed the guidelines
If you followed the steps, click the blue registration button (登録) to proceed to the next step.
9. APPLICATION INFORMATION REGISTRATION

Enter your birthday on the red box on the image. Once done, tick the small green box, and the blue-colored confirmation button (確認) to proceed.

At this point, you need to confirm all the information that you’ve provided. Check your ID number, email name, email address, as well as your birthday.
Once you’re done confirming, click the blue-colored register button (登録) to proceed to the last step.
11. APPLICATION REGISTRATION COMPLETE
Step 5. End of application
The application is confirmed and you need to wait for a few weeks to process the application. You’ll receive a notification if there is an error on your application and would ask you to make some changes.
