The Tokyo Metropolitan Government announced 1,935 new cases of infection on June 8. This is down 480 from last Wednesday and the 26th consecutive day below the same day of the previous week. The average number of new cases over the last seven days was approximately 1,830, 76.1 percent of the number a week earlier.

After Tokyo, Osaka, Okinawa, and Hokkaido were the next most infected prefectures, in that order. The total number of infected persons nationwide is 18,416, a decrease of over 4,300 from last Wednesday.

Of the infected hospitalized nationwide, 79 are in serious condition. Twenty-one new deaths have been confirmed.
