Male caregiver, arrested for assaulting a facility resident who later died from injuries

SAITAMA– A male staff member at a caregiving facility was arrested for allegedly kicking a male resident in Hanno City, Saitama Prefecture. The male resident subsequently died from injuries.

The suspect, Toshihiko Kato, 48-years old, was arrested on suspicion of assault. He is suspected of kicking a resident, a man in his 90s in a wheelchair, in the back around 2pm yesterday.
The man was later confirmed dead at the hospital where he was taken.
The whole thing was caught on security camera and the suspect was arrested for assaulting the victim.
One employee witnessed the assault, and upon the suspect’s questioning, Kato admitted to the charges saying “I kicked him because he asked me to do a lot of things.”
The police are investigating the connection between the assault and the cause of the man’s death.
