Coronavirus infection, confirmed in over 1,000 people nationwide for the first time in three months
The number of people infected with the new coronavirus was announced to be 1,268 nationwide on the 4th. This is the first time in about three months since October last year that the number of people infected with the virus has exceeded 1,000.

The number of newly infected people announced by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government on January 4 was 151, exceeding 100 for the second consecutive day. The average number of new infections in the last seven days is about 90, which is 2.3 times more than last week.
The highest number of cases nationwide was 225 in Okinawa, the first time in about three and a half months that the number of cases exceeded 200. More than 100 cases have been confirmed in Osaka and Hiroshima.
In addition, the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare announced that 117 new cases of infection have been confirmed at airport quarantines. This is the largest number ever announced in one day.
Of the infected people hospitalized nationwide, 54 are in serious condition, up two from the previous day, and one new death has been confirmed.
