Nearly 55,000 new cases of the new type of coronavirus were reported yesterday.

The Tokyo Metropolitan Government announced 8,652 new cases yesterday. This is a decrease of 868 cases from last week and the third consecutive day below the previous week.
The average number of new cases over the last seven days was just over 7,300, 96.5 percent of last week’s total, and the first time since the 28th of last month that the number has been below 100 percent for nine days.
Nationwide, 4896 cases were announced in ▼Osaka and 3956 cases in Kanagawa, with four prefectures, including Fukushima and Niigata, recording record highs. In addition, 508 of the infected hospitalized nationwide are in serious condition, and 66 new deaths have been announced.
