Pedestrian, dead after being hit by an express train in Gifu

GIFU – At around 2:35 p.m. on March 31, a pedestrian of unknown age and sex was hit by a four-car “Hida” No. 10 limited express train bound for Nagoya from Takayama near a railroad crossing on the JR Takayama Line in Naga-Azuma-cho, Kakamigahara City, Gifu Prefecture.
The death was confirmed shortly after. The 50 passengers and crew on board were uninjured.
According to the Kakamigahara Police Department and other authorities, the scene is near the No. 2 Sakaimigawa crossing, 400 meters east of JR Naka Station, and the crossing has an alarm and a circuit breaker. The police are hurrying to identify the man.
According to JR Tokai, the accident caused a two-hour suspension between Sohara and Gifu, with seven trains partially suspended and six delayed, affecting approximately 1,100 passengers.
