The man is suspected of repeatedly hitting a 15-year-old high school boy on the head and injuring him on the JR Hakodate Line between Onuma and Shikabe stations at around 6:00 p.m. on July 21.
Police received a report from JR that a male passenger was beating another passenger, waited for the train to arrive at the Shikabe station, and arrested the man on the spot.
The 50-year-old man, who self-identified as unemployed, told the interrogator, “I heard what he said about the smell, so I got angry. He admitted the charge.
On the other hand, the high school boy explained that he never said he smelled anything, and the police continue to investigate the situation in detail.
Due to this incident, the regular train in question was suspended for about an hour, affecting approximately 60 passengers.
