FUKUOKA – A 51-year-old man was struck and killed by a light wagon car on a roadway in Fukuchi Town, Fukuoka Prefecture. The light wagon had slipped and “spun” due to icy road conditions just prior to the accident.

The incident happened on Tagawa-Nogata Bypass, a prefectural road in Ihata, Fukuchi-cho, Fukuoka Prefecture, around 5:30 p.m. on January 24.
The victim, Makoto Takai, 51, was rushed to the hospital but unfortunately succumbed to his wounds after a few hours. According to the police, a large truck with hazard lights was parked at the scene, and Takai was believed to be the driver of the truck.
The man driving the light wagon, a 31-year old man, said that he saw the parked truck and hit the brakes, but the car had slipped and spun. At the time of the accident, it was snowing and the road surface was icy, and the police are investigating the circumstances of the accident in detail.
