KAGOSHIMA – On the morning of February 5, a man was struck and killed by a local train between Kagoshima Chuo Station and Kagoshima Station on the JR Kagoshima Main Line.

A man was lying on his back with blood pouring from his abdomen about 10 meters away from the crossing.
The accident occurred on the railroad tracks near the Tate Baba crossing in Ogawa-cho, Kagoshima City. According to the police, Ryuji Kihara, 25, an office worker in Nagata-cho, Kagoshima City, was hit by a local train heading from Kagoshima Station to Kagoshima Chuo Station at around 5:45 a.m. on February 5.
Kihara was severely bruised all over his body and was pronounced dead at the hospital where he was taken. A total of 38 passengers and crew were on board the train, and luckily no one was injured.
The driver reportedly said that a person was lying on the tracks and that he applied the brakes but could not brake in time.
According to JR Kyushu, the accident caused a total of six trains on the Kagoshima Main Line to be suspended on both the upper and lower lines, affecting approximately 700 passengers.
