Can Explodes at Nishi Arai Station, Injuring Woman’s Face; Chinese National, arrested!

TOKYO – A woman was injured when a can of coffee exploded at Nishi Arai Station of Tobu Railway in Adachi-ku, Tokyo. The police are questioning a Chinese national, who claims that he did not intentionally cause the can to explode.

Just before 4:00 p.m. on May 8, a passerby called 110 at the ticket counter of Nishi Arai Station on the Tobu Skytree Line in Adachi-ku, saying, “There was a popping explosion, a can broke, and liquid was coming out from it.”
Based on a CCTV footage, a Chinese national placed a can of coffee near the ticket machine and left. The can suddenly exploded, injuring a woman nearby.
The Metropolitan Police Department is interviewing a man in his 40s who left the can and walked away.
The suspect was a Chinese national and he said, “The bursting of the can was unintentional. I put detergent inside so I can use it at home.”
