Man got stung by bees and died while weeding riverbed in Satte City, Saitama

SAITAMA – A male worker weeding a riverbed in Satte City, Saitama Prefecture, was stung by a hornet and later died at a hospital.

According to Saitama Prefecture, around 11:30 a.m. on June 16, a male worker in his 50s was weeding along the banks of the Nakagawa River in Satte City when he was stung by a hornet.
The man collapsed on the spot and was immediately transported to the hospital by ambulance, but died on the next day.
The weeding work was being conducted by the prefectural government in conjunction with river maintenance and repair work on the Nakagawa River, and five people were working on the project at the time.
Other than the man who died, no one else was stung by bees.
Saitama Prefecture’s Sugito Prefectural Land Development Office stated, “We will ensure safety management to prevent a recurrence.
