The accident occurred just after 6:30 a.m. on the 23rd, when a one-box car carrying six people crashed into a roadside sign post and other objects at an intersection on a city road in Soka, killing Rino Nakamura, 20, a vocational school student living in Adachi Ward, Tokyo, and a university student, 19, and seriously injuring three others.
Police have arrested Shuhei Okada, 20, a university student from Yashio City, on suspicion of drunk driving for driving a one-box car while drunk.
According to the police, he told them that he bought alcohol at a convenience store, brought it to a karaoke bar, and drank it with six others. The police are investigating the passenger on suspicion of aiding and abetting a drunk driver, as well as suspicion of causing death or injury by dangerous driving.
