KANAGAWA – A 70-year-old man was killed in a hit-and-run accident by a garbage truck in Kamakura City, Kanagawa Prefecture, and police have arrested the driver.

The suspect, Haruo Isoda (73), was arrested on suspicion of manslaughter by negligent driving. The suspect is suspected to have been driving a garbage truck when he hit Yoshiro Ono, 70, who was crossing a crosswalk in Yamazaki, Kamakura City, at around 6 a.m. yesterday and drove away. Mr. Ono died, and the suspect, Isoda, was found in a car near the scene about 30 minutes after the incident, and was asked to accompany the suspect voluntarily.
According to the police, Isoda has admitted to the charges, saying, “I got scared and fled the scene.”
