Woman in her 40s arrested in Tokyo for keeping 58 dogs, snakes and other animals in a “multi-cat household”.
TOKYO – A 46-year-old woman has been arrested for keeping dogs in poor conditions at her home in Tokyo. It is believed that the woman kept 58 animals of 24 different species, including a large lizard and a crocodile, and was unable to take care of them.
A dog is carried out of a house in Ota Ward, Tokyo, on March 12. The police arrested Aki Kuwazoe, 46, on suspicion of violating the Animal Protection Law by keeping five dogs in a poor environment.
In addition to dogs and rabbits, Kuwazoe kept 58 animals of 24 different species at the same time, including large lizards and owls.
“About three years ago, she started keeping small animals, and then started keeping dogs, and eventually we started smelling strange odors coming out of her house,” said a neighbor.
In addition to admitting to the charges, Kuwazoe stated that she had purchased many animals in the past year because he could not go on overseas trips, which was her hobby, due to Corona.
Last month, the Ministry of the Environment formulated guidelines to encourage local governments to work together with welfare departments to deal with the problem of social isolation in the background.
