The suspects, Nguyen Thi Viet Binh (46) and Nguyen Lu Minh Son (52), both living in Yamato City, Kanagawa Prefecture, were arrested on suspicion that they submitted false documents to the Immigration and Residence Management Bureau in June this year, claiming that Son and a 53-year-old Vietnamese woman were married, in order to renew Son’s status of residence.
In reality, Son was married to Binh in Vietnam and was living in Yamato City with his daughter. Binh stated that he wanted to raise his daughter in Japan where the environment is good. And Binh allegedly paid the Vietnamese woman 5 million yen as compensation for the fake marriage. The Metropolitan Police Department is investigating the details.
