OITA – In the early hours of October 1, a passenger car, apparently driven by a drunk driver, crashed into a guard pipe on a national highway in Oita City, killing two 20-year-old men.

The back of the car, which had started off at a high speed, was lifted up by the impact of the collision.
Just before 3 a.m. on October 1,, a passenger car collided with a guard pipe on the side of the road at the intersection of Route 197 in Oita City. Toshiya Kamitori (20), an office worker in Oita City, was driving the car and was struck in the chest and other parts of the body, and died about two hours later. A 20-year-old man riding in the passenger seat is unconscious and in critical condition.
Since beer cans were found in the car and the driver was seen staggering just before the accident, the police are investigating the possibility of drunk driving.
