Just before 11:00 a.m. on the 12th, Toshiko Namiki (90), who lives nearby, was run over by a dump truck at an intersection in Nishi-Koiwa, Edogawa Ward. Ms. Namiki was rushed to the hospital, but later died.
According to the Metropolitan Police Department, the dump truck was stopped at an intersection with a traffic light, and when the light turned green and it started running, Ms. Namiki, who was holding a cane, came out from the sidewalk onto the roadway and was hit.
The police arrested Mitsuru Kimura, 57, a company employee, on suspicion of negligent driving and injury. Kimura has admitted to the charges, saying, “There is no doubt that I hit a woman and injured her,” and is investigating the cause of the accident in detail.
