At around 11:00 p.m. on the 19th, a police car on an emergency run collided with a block wall of a house on the left side of a street in Higashi Koshigaya, Koshigaya City, when it made a right turn at an intersection. Masato Sato, 56, a lieutenant of the Koshigaya Police Department’s Community Affairs Division, who was riding in the back seat of the police car, complained of pain in his abdomen and was transported to the hospital, where he died of septic shock early on the 24th.
The driver of the car, a police sergeant (26), was not injured, but a male officer (21) in the passenger seat suffered a slight injury to his right hand.
